How to Connect hDrop Gen 2 to a Wahoo ELEMNT Bike Computer

Use hDrop Gen 2 with compatible Wahoo ELEMNT bike computers to see real-time hydration data during your ride and record sweat data into your FIT file.

Compatible Wahoo devices

hDrop Gen 2 is currently supported on the latest Wahoo ELEMNT bike computers:

  • Wahoo ELEMNT ACE
  • Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT 3
  • Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM 3

Older Wahoo computers, including ELEMNT, BOLT 1, ROAM 1, BOLT 2, and ROAM 2, are not currently supported for hDrop connectivity.

Requirements

Before connecting hDrop to your Wahoo device, make sure you have:

  • hDrop Gen 2 Hydration Sensor
  • hDrop mobile app
  • Wahoo app version:
    • Android: 6.86.0 or newer
    • iOS: 6.86.1 or newer
  • Wahoo ELEMNT bike computer firmware:
    • Version 3.25.2.3 / build 302533 or newer
  • Bluetooth enabled on your phone and Wahoo device
  • A saved Wi-Fi connection on your ELEMNT device if a firmware update is needed

What data appears on Wahoo?

When connected, hDrop can display and record:

  • Fluid Loss: cumulative fluid loss during the ride
  • Sodium Loss: cumulative sodium loss during the ride

These values are shown on your Wahoo ELEMNT data pages during the ride and are recorded into the ride FIT file.

Important: Wahoo currently records hDrop sweat data into the FIT file, but post-ride sweat analysis is done in the hDrop app. The Wahoo app and ELEMNT computer do not currently provide full post-ride sweat analytics.

Before your first ride

1. Update your Wahoo app and ELEMNT firmware

Make sure your Wahoo app and ELEMNT computer are updated to the required versions listed above.

If your ELEMNT needs a firmware update, your bike computer must be connected to a saved Wi-Fi network.

2. Set up your hDrop Gen 2 in the hDrop app

Open the hDrop app and make sure your hDrop Gen 2 is already paired and working correctly with the hDrop app before trying to connect it to Wahoo.

The hDrop sensor must be awake before pairing. To wake the sensor, make sure it has skin contact or is activated from the hDrop app.

3. Add hDrop data fields to your Wahoo workout profile

Open the Wahoo app and add the hDrop data fields to the workout profile you plan to use.

Follow this path in the Wahoo app:

Wahoo app > Devices > Your ELEMNT computer > Workout Profiles > Select profile > Pages > Select page > Add or replace data field > Sweat Analysis

Then choose:

  • Fluid Loss
  • Sodium Loss

You can add one or both fields depending on what you want to see during your ride.

Make sure your ELEMNT computer is connected to the Wahoo app so the data field changes sync to the device.

How to connect hDrop to Wahoo before a ride

hDrop Gen 2 can only connect to one Bluetooth device at a time. Because of this, you need to start the activity in the hDrop app first, then switch hDrop into external device mode so your Wahoo ELEMNT can connect to it.

Follow this sequence:

1. Open the hDrop app

Open the hDrop app and confirm your hDrop sensor is awake and available.

2. Start an Intense / Active activity

In the hDrop app, start a new Intense / Active activity.

This step is important because the hDrop sensor needs to begin recording before it is handed off to the Wahoo ELEMNT.

3. Open the hDrop settings menu

Tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the hDrop app.

4. Select Connect to External Device

In the hDrop app, choose:

Connect to External Device

Then select:

Use with External Device

This disconnects hDrop from the hDrop app so it can be found by your Wahoo ELEMNT bike computer.

5. Pair hDrop on your Wahoo ELEMNT

On your Wahoo ELEMNT device, go to:

Ready to Ride > Pair Sensor

or:

Settings > Sensors > Pair Sensor

Your Wahoo device should find hDrop as a Bluetooth sensor. Select hDrop to pair.

6. Confirm the connection

Before starting your ride, confirm that:

  • hDrop appears as connected on the ELEMNT
  • The hDrop sensor is worn correctly
  • The Fluid Loss and/or Sodium Loss data fields are visible on your Wahoo data page
  • The data fields begin showing values once the ride is underway

Wearing hDrop correctly

For best results, wear hDrop Gen 2 according to hDrop placement guidelines.

Recommended placements include:

  • Back of the upper arm
  • Chest strap placement, positioned as far forward as possible without covering heart rate monitor electrode contact pads

Make sure the sensor has good skin contact during the ride.

During the ride

Start your ride normally on the Wahoo ELEMNT.

Once hDrop is connected, your selected data fields will display during the ride.

Notes:

  • hDrop sensor readings are taken at regular intervals.
  • Sweat and sodium loss values update periodically during the ride.
  • Data is recorded into the FIT file while the Wahoo ride is actively recording.
  • If the Wahoo ride is paused, data transmitted during the pause may not be recorded into the FIT file.

After the ride

When your ride is complete, save the ride on your Wahoo ELEMNT.

After the ride is saved, the ELEMNT will temporarily disconnect from hDrop for about 15 minutes. This gives you time to reconnect hDrop to the hDrop app and sync your hDrop sensor data.

Then:

  1. Open the hDrop app.
  2. Select Use with hDrop App.
  3. Reconnect to your hDrop sensor.
  4. Sync the completed hDrop activity to the hDrop app.

This step is important because hDrop stores data onboard and syncs detailed sweat data back to the hDrop app after the ride.

Optional: Sync ride context to hDrop

For more complete post-ride analysis, you can connect your ride data ecosystem so hDrop can use additional workout context.

You can do this by connecting:

  • Wahoo app to Apple Health or Android Health Connect
  • hDrop app to Apple Health or Android Health Connect

This allows completed ride data to help provide more context for sweat analysis inside the hDrop app.

Troubleshooting
